Treatment Programs

Our goal is to address patient concerns by providing:

  • Support and information regarding breast cancer treatment and guidelines at the time of diagnosis.

  • Assistance with decision making, managing side effects, and overcoming challenges during treatment.

  • Counseling services for issues such as fear of recurrence, anxiety, depression, challenges with body image, sexuality or intimacy, and impacts on family and relationships.

  • Coaching regarding survivorship issues, strategies to reduce risk of recurrence, and if needed strategies for living with a recurrence or other cancer related issues.

  • Ongoing follow up exams and surveillance for breast cancer patients and individuals who have been medically identified as high risk of developing breast cancer.

  • Opportunities to participate in “Breast Cancer Recovery Group Programming” for patients who have completed active treatment.
    - Option of six or twelve-week group programs. Each week, participants are guided through an exploration of self-care, nutrition, exercise, and stress management which can have a positive impact on their recovery process and reduce their risk of cancer recurrence. This unique change management program will assist participants in implementing these practices more fully into their daily life as they make the transition from illness to health and wellness.
    - During the program, women are quipped with the information, tools, strategies and support they require to reconcile their cancer experience and to successfully manage other life challenges as they arise. They are empowered to actively participate in their own health and well-being, and their experience enhances physical, emotional, mental, relational and spiritual wellness as a result. There is an improvement in overall health outcomes for the women who choose to participate in the program.
    - The curriculum, uniquely developed by the BCSC team, addresses topics such as: Exploring recovery, managing treatment side effects, fatigue, body image and sexuality, loss and grief, fear of recurrence, anxiety and depression, relationships, spiritual wellness, and developing psychological strategies for enhancing wellness.
    - Special Projects and Research: In addition to the three core programs, special projects and research will be undertaken based on the strategic priorities of BCSC, community need, feedback from patients, and the availability of funding.
